De-icing: Staying Safe and Saving Time in Amsterdam

Amsterdam, De-icing, Engineering, Europe, Winter

As air traffic in the northern hemisphere is currently affected by heavy snowfall and ice in some locations, the safety of our operations is paramount. Aircraft de-icing is one of the most important precautions to achieve this.

De-icing an aircraft is a highly coordinated effort, involving multiple steps, and is always a race against the clock. Our FBO team in Amsterdam is up to the task.

“Jet Aviation is the only provider of de-icing services at the general aviation/business aviation (GA/BA) terminal at Schiphol Airport,” says Ricardo Paiva, Senior Director of Site Operations & Country GM Jet Aviation Netherlands.

During the de-icing season, this service saves Jet Aviation’s customers up to one hour of their time, ensuring both a seamless experience and safe travels.

“If we didn’t offer this service, using our own equipment, then all GA/BA aircraft would have to taxi to the commercial aviation terminal and queue with the aircraft there for de-icing,” Ricardo adds.

“Jet Aviation’s de-icing service saves our customers up to one hour of their time, ensuring both a seamless experience and safe travels.”

In the last de-icing season, usually lasting from December 1 to March 31 of each year, Jet Aviation Amsterdam provided this service to 125 different customers.

Our Amsterdam FBO uses their own dedicated FMC de-icing truck, guaranteeing maximum availability for our customers. The de-icing procedure consists of a one-step or two-step process, depending on the specific conditions and aircraft types. De-icing solution is a mixture of propylene glycol and varying amounts of water that is heated and sprayed under pressure.
