Meet Michel Lehmann

Basel, Europe, I Am Jet, Maintenance

We introduce #IAMJET employee, Michel Lehmann, Certifying Workshop Technician in Basel

Michel, how long have you worked for Jet Aviation?

I've been working for Jet Aviation in the Basel Engine Shop for 6.5 years.

How did you come to Jet Aviation?

I saw the job advertised on the Internet and applied.

Can you briefly describe your job: As a Certifying Workshop Technician, it's my job to perform routine maintenance checks on the various aircraft engines we support, as well as the Auxiliary Power Units (APUs). This includes Line Replacement Unit changes, repairs and modifications. Everything I do must be performed per the respective aircraft engine and APU manuals, while following all Jet Aviation procedures.

What one word would describe how you approach your job?

Methodical.

“My priority as an Engine Mechanic is to keep the engines safe and efficient for operation”

Tell us about your typical workday: Work always begins with a short meeting between the Engine Shop mechanics and the Supervisor and it is at this meeting that I'm told what I have to work on that day. I then first prepare to do the job, which includes ordering any parts and tooling I'll need from the shop, as well as checking the procedures. I then do the task assigned, perform several required checks, such as an Engine run, and close up the project once the job is completed.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The satisfaction that everything is running well after a major maintenance job or repair on an engine.

And what do you enjoy about working for Jet Aviation?

It's a privilege to work for the main leading business aviation company operating around the world, especially when I get the opportunity to travel and represent Jet Aviation as part of a mobile response team (MRT). When an aircraft is grounded (AOG), it's both exciting and particularly rewarding to go help get it back in the air.

What are the main challenges you face in your role?

Deadlines are often tight, but there are no compromises where safety is concerned.  We have to complete tasks that ensure the highest safety and quality levels — and on time!

If you could describe working at Jet in three words, what would they be?

Challenging. Interesting. Diverse.
