Celebrating International Youth Day

Career, Intern, International Youth Day, Talent

For International Youth Day on August 12, we talked with young professionals across our network about early career paths in the company and what young talent brings to organizations.

International Youth Day falls on August 12 every year, to bring attention to the topics that younger generations care about most. This year, we are exploring the hot topic of future career opportunities in aviation. As a global organization with four complementary lines of business, we are committed to offering a wide range of opportunities for young talent, and to enabling them to pursue their passion for a career in aviation.

Enrique Garrido Bosch, Senior Vice President Global Human Resources, said: “We aim to be the partner of choice for young individuals exploring how to begin their careers, offering access to internships or hands-on learning across many trades, taught by the best experts in the field: our Jet Aviation professionals!”

“Everyone at Jet Aviation is energized about helping young talent discover this passion-driven industry. Working across our various departments allows young professionals to experience the complexity of our services and observe firsthand how the values of teamwork and trust make a meaningful difference in the work environment.”

On this theme, we talked to young Jet Aviation professionals about their experiences. We asked them about the opportunities they have had at Jet Aviation, and their thoughts on what young talent brings to the workforce. Many of the interviewees started out as trainees, interns or apprentices at Jet Aviation, and grew over the years into their current roles.

What growth opportunities have you had at Jet Aviation?

I joined Jet Aviation immediately after my graduation in 2022. I was truly fortunate to have an opportunity to showcase my skills I have earned in university. As an IT support, we face new challenges every day. As I grow in Jet Aviation day by day, I feel more confident facing new challenges, providing solutions and being able to support our colleagues. Those challenges urged me to pursue professional certifications and training to further develop my career.

How do young employees contribute to their companies?

Freshers always bring excitement and fresh air when they join. I feel that I was able to contribute in many ways since I joined here three years back. It was incredibly rewarding to have my contributions recognized by Jet Aviation. As a young employee I feel I’m close to the new technologies available. Having undying will to learn and try new things keeps me passionate to do what I love to do every day.

What growth opportunities have you had at Jet Aviation?

I began my journey with Jet Aviation as an intern in 2020, where I was assigned to the FBO department. During this time, I had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in both the Customer Service Agent (CSA) and Ramp roles. It was initially challenging, as everything was new to me, but I embraced the learning curve.

Later, I was offered another opportunity to support the back-end operations for two years. This allowed me to gain valuable experience in billing, customer invoicing, contract management, and various administrative tasks.

In 2023, I transitioned into a full-time CSA role. This move allowed me to deepen my understanding and take on greater responsibilities than I had during my internship. I began handling flights independently and working with a diverse range of clients.

How do young employees contribute to Jet Aviation?

As a young employee, I believe we bring fresh, innovative ideas and creative approaches that can help drive positive change within the department. We’re eager to embrace modern methods and technologies that align with the current generation, ultimately making processes more efficient for everyone.

I get to bring in positive and youthful energy for my colleagues, helping to create a lively and uplifting atmosphere. Even after a long day at work, I aim to ensure that everyone still enjoys their time and feels motivated.

What growth opportunities have you had at Jet Aviation?

Jet Aviation has been a vessel for growth and learning since the minute I stepped into the front lobby of the Teterboro FBO in mid-2021. Immediately, I was welcomed into a team of individuals who were passionate about teaching and inclusion. Beginning my career in the Marketing and Communications department, I was able to support each line of business and learn from a holistic perspective—understanding how Jet Aviation operated and how the different departments complemented each other. They ultimately, they helped me find my voice.

After two years, I accepted an opportunity to move into operations within JAFS. Surrounded by a team with decades of experience, I’ve been able to soak up copious amounts of operational knowledge within the aircraft management and charter realm. I’ve had the opportunity to build foundational relationships with industry partners throughout my time in JAFS. It’s a never-ending learning cycle and each day looks different. Within JAFS, it’s critical that I work hand-in-hand with every department— allowing me to see at its root how the machine truly works and is reliant upon each team to work together harmoniously.

How do young employees contribute to their companies?

The youth within any company is integral to its success – I believe this firmly. They are the future of the company and a company without employees doesn’t exist. Buy-in is huge. It’s one thing to move to a company after decades at a different business but it’s another to have leadership that have been within the company for numerous years, know how the machine works, and have truly bought into its goals, ethos, and mission. Furthermore, youth bring with them a different mindset. They are able to view problems from a different perspective and offer up solutions that often differ from the status quo – a lot of times leveraging a technological edge. Younger generations have the ability to bring with them tenacity, energy and a skillset within evolving technology that is critical within any company.

What growth opportunities have you had at Jet Aviation?

I have had the opportunity to work on a process alignment project and to lead part of its execution. I have had growth opportunities not only by working on tasks that matter to the future of Jet Aviation’s maintenance business, but also exposure through presentation to and conversation with senior management. If you want to contribute, then opportunities to make significant impact are surely available at Jet Aviation.

How do young employees contribute to their companies?

At Jet Aviation we believe in flat hierarchies and solving problems in dynamic teams together. I was given the opportunity to learn from my colleagues and leaders, but equally I was challenged to contribute fresh ideas and participated in the decision making within the Process, Systems and Data Team.

Elena Burger, Specialist Young Talent and Onboarding, said: “Young professionals often enter the corporate world with up-to-date knowledge on digital tools, data analytics, automation, engineering, and sustainability. These are all areas that are transforming aviation. Their fresh perspectives can open dialog about long-held practices, accelerate innovation, and help organizations adapt more quickly to change.”

Thank you to all our participants in this year’s International Youth Day, and for their valued contributions to Jet Aviation.
