Meet Nazarulrizal bin Ibrahim

Asia Pacific, FBO, I Am Jet, Singapore

We introduce #IAMJET employee, Nazarulrizal bin Ibrahim, Line & Ramp Service Agent, Singapore

Nazarulrizal, how long have you worked for Jet Aviation?

I've been working for Jet Aviation for 6 years, since 2012.

How did you come to Jet Aviation?

I previously worked for SATS (Singapore Airport Terminal Services) for 12 years, where I served the airside ground transfers team. In the course of my work, I had the opportunity to meet and work with employees from Jet Aviation on a number of occasions – it was they who encouraged and invited me to join Jet Aviation.

Can you briefly describe your job: I provide aircraft towing support for Jet Aviation's operations around Seletar Airport – this includes assisting with towing of aircraft that the MRO department is supporting, towing of aircraft that Jet Aviation is providing flight handling services to and towing of aircraft upon arrival or departure at Seletar Airport. I also assist the Ramp Team with baggage handling, lavatory and water servicing, aircraft marshalling and other operational requirements that Jet Aviation has.

“I really enjoy towing aircraft. It requires skill and brings me great satisfaction. With my years of experience in ramp support, I often know what customers need even before they ask for it”

What one word would describe how you approach your job?

Proactive. I anticipate our client's needs before they do. With my experience in providing ramp support over the years, I know what customers will need even before they ask for them.

Tell us about your typical workday: I do shift work , so a typical day / shift for me starts with a briefing on the day's activities with the team and our supervisor, highlighting any special requirements that we need to be aware of. I then inspect the equipment we are to be using that day against a checklist. Aside from the aircraft movements planned for the day, I am always on standby should the team require additional support for towing or flight handling, or to assist with the handling of unplanned flights. Before the end of my shift, I review the next day's planned aircraft movement to mentally prepare myself for the next day's tasks.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I really enjoy towing aircraft, it requires skill and experience and brings me great satisfaction. It is also always amazing to meet crew who come from all over the world – some have even become familiar faces here at Seletar Airport. Being a part of the Singapore FBO team is like being part of a large family and working with them makes my time at work very enjoyable.

And what do you enjoy about working for Jet Aviation?

I appreciate the flexibility that my shift work schedule provides. There is a culture of open communication here within the Singapore FBO team, too, so I am able to approach my colleagues for support and discuss with them any issues I might be facing.

What are the main challenges you face in your role?

Singapore has a year-round tropical climate, so I always have to be mentally and operationally ready to support our customers in all weather conditions – this can range from scorching heat to tropical thunderstorms, sometimes within the same day! My role is also physically demanding, as a lot of my work requires physical strength. On the bright side, I get a great workout everyday!

If you could describe working at Jet in three words, what would they be?

Satisfying. Supportive. Accepting (of diversity).
